Rabat – The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) has listed five players from Morocco’s national football team among its Men’s 2022 Team for the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Thanks to their outstanding skills and remarkable performance during the Qatar World Cup, Morocco’s Yassine Bounou, Achraf Hakimi, Romain Saiss, Azzedine Ounahi, and Sofyan Amrabat were featured in Africa’s “Best Eleven.”
The mission of guarding the net of Africa’s 2022 team was given to none other than renowned Moroccan goalkeeper Bounou, who has caught the attention of football fans from across the world due to his iconic saves during the Qatar World Cup.
With his stellar performance, Bounou has also ranked among IFFHS’ top ten goalkeepers for 2022, securing the third spot with a total of 55 points.
Meanwhile, Africa’s typical team features Paris Saint Germain’s Hakimi and the Atlas Lions’ captain Saiss in the defense line. Both Atlas Lions were widely celebrated for their strong performance and defense skills at the global event.
Hakimi is notably remembered for the iconic panenka penalty kick he scored during Morocco’s round-of-16 game against Spain. Not only did Hakimi’s kick steal the show on the global stage, but it also secured Morocco its first-ever qualification to the quarter-finals.
In addition, Moroccan midfielders Ounahi and Amrabat, who have been on the radars of several elite European clubs, have rightfully booked their spots among Africa’s men’s 2022 team.
Amrabat has been a key part of Morocco’s fairytale run at the 2022 World Cup, as he asserted his dominance on the pitch and successfully mastered the task of assisting forwards to create scoring opportunities.
Similarly, Ounahi stunned football fans at the World Cup, with his impressive dribbling skills and high stamina. Following his notable performance in Qatar, Ounahi’s market value skyrocketed, increasing by over 328%.
