Several questioned the second T20I pitch utilised between India and New Zealand for its sluggishness and assistance. Both teams found it difficult to bat, and the 100-run mark was difficult to reach in the shortest format.

Gautam Gambhir, a former player for India and the current coach of the Lucknow Super Giants, remarked that if Quinton de Kock had to bat on a field in Lucknow in the Indian Premier League in 2023, he would not participate.

Gambhir, Jatin Sapru, and Mohammad Kaif talked about LSG’s spin lineup for the upcoming season.

Amit Mishra and Ravi Bishnoi would both like bowling on a surface like that, according to Kaif, but the management should also take KL Rahul and De Kock into account. In response to Kaif’s remark, Gautam stated that the South Africa wicket-keeper would not participate if he was required to bat on a challenging surface.

One of the most explosive opening batters in the history of cricket, Quinton de Kock enjoys scoring runs quickly at the top of the order. He is a perfect fit for limited-overs formats since he has good skill and can score runs quickly.

De Kock has consistently performed well in recent IPL seasons and will again be an important member of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) team in 2023.

Everything you need to know about Quinton De Kock

One such South African talent is Quinton de Kock. It is simple to understand why he is already being hailed as a future great given some of the achievements he has performed at such a young age. De Kock is a fantastic batsman, but he also adds a lot of value to the team by taking the gloves.

The left-handed batsman attended the same high school as Graeme Smith and Neil McKenzie, King Edward VII High School. De Kock gained notoriety while playing for South Africa’s U-19 team and finished the 2012 World Cup in Australia as his team’s leading run-scorer. During that year, when representing the Lions in the Champions League T20, de Kock attracted more attention with a brilliant knock that helped his team defeat the Mumbai Indians.

Due to AB de Villiers’ desire for a break, it paved the path for him to join the national team for a T20I series against New Zealand two months later. De Kock, however, took some time to achieve success on the global stage. Many only began to recognise his enormous talent a year later, when he struck those three consecutive ODI hundreds against India.

For the remainder of the year, he was essentially in and out of the team until he faced opposition again and cemented his status with a few hundreds in a five-match ODI series.

It had been little under two years since de Kock’s Test debut at this stage. He never truly claimed the location as his own. Dane Vilas was chosen over him to be the wicketkeeper in the subsequent Test series, despite the fact that they had won the ODI series in India. De Kock, though, really came into his own in 2016 and put on performances that led to comparisons to a legend like Adam Gilchrist.

De Kock went on a scoring spree in the middle of the year, becoming the fifth South African to make five fifty-plus runs in a row. This run culminated with a match-winning hundred against Australia in Hobart, which gave the visitors the series victory. For many Australian spectators, De Kock’s style of play in the preceding Test at Perth, where he scored counterattacking fifties, followed by Hobart, brought back wonderful memories of their own renowned wicketkeeper batsman.

De Kock excelled in limited-overs cricket as well as the Test format in 2016. Before becoming South Africa’s leading run-getter in the World T20 and being chosen to the ICC’s team of the tournament, he began the competition with a pair of hundreds against England at home. Later that year, in Centurion, he may have produced his most famous ODI innings to date, thrashing Australia for 178 off just 113 balls.

Quinton de Kock and his IPL career

Quinton was traded to the Delhi Daredevils for 3.5 crores during the 2014 campaign. In seven games, Quinton only managed to score 153 runs. He was kept on for the following season and participated in three games for his group.

De Kock’s biggest breakthrough year was 2016, when he scored 445 runs in 13 matches with a 37.08 average and a 136.08 strike rate. Quinton left his previous team in 2018 and was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore for 2.8 crores. He failed to live up to his talent, scoring only 201 runs in 8 games, and the team terminated him the following year. He was purchased by Mumbai Indians for 2.8 crores, and they used him as an opener.
